Chemical Peels in Bella Vista

A chemical peel uses an acid or enzyme formulation to exfoliate the surface of the skin. At Priscille Vrljic Aesthetics we use the Cosmedix range, applied by a registered nurse, and the peel is selected at consultation to suit your skin and your concern.

Treatment time is 30 minutes. Cost is from $129. Downtime ranges from mild flaking for 1 to 2 days to moderate peeling for 3 to 5 days, depending on which peel is chosen.

Enzyme Peel

An enzymatic and exfoliating peel containing cranberry and 5% L-Lactic acid that detoxifies, soothes and hydrates. Six weekly treatments are recommended. Safe in pregnancy and while breastfeeding. No skin preparation required beforehand.

Pomegranate Peel

A superficial peel suitable for all skin types and particularly suited to hyperpigmented skin. It contains a higher concentration of 15% L-Lactic acid plus papaya enzymes and a blend of antioxidants for enhanced exfoliation. Six fortnightly treatments are recommended. Safe in pregnancy and while breastfeeding. No skin preparation required beforehand.

Benefit Peel

An all-purpose peel containing fruit enzymes, Vitamin A, Vitamin C and Salicylic acid, designed to resurface, correct and protect the skin. It reduces congestion while improving the overall appearance and texture of the skin, and is calming for reactive skin types such as rosacea.

Vitamin A and a pigment inhibitor will be prescribed for you to use 2 to 4 weeks before treatment, to prepare your skin and to minimise any adverse reactions. A course of 3 treatments at 4 week intervals is recommended. Not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Timeless Peel

A leave-on medium depth peel containing retinol and L-Lactic acid, which stimulates collagen and elastin production. It is used for dull skin, fine lines, melasma, environmental sun damage, acne prone skin and scarring. The peel can remain on the skin for up to 8 hours to allow extra time to activate cell renewal.

Vitamin A and a pigment inhibitor will be prescribed for you to use 2 to 4 weeks before treatment. A course of 3 treatments at 4 week intervals is recommended. Not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

The four peels differ in strength, in preparation required and in whether they are suitable during pregnancy. That decision is made at your consultation with a registered nurse, not at booking.

Risks and side effects

The risks and side effects of Cosmedix professional chemical peels will depend on the specific peel used, its strength, the patient's skin condition and sensitivity.

Most common side effects include:

• Mild to moderate redness
• Stinging, tingling, burning or discomfort during or after treatment
• Skin dryness, tightness or a feeling of sensitivity
• Flaking, peeling or superficial shedding of the skin
• Temporary swelling or inflammation
• Increased sensitivity to sunlight
• Temporary worsening of acne or breakouts
• Temporary disruption of the skin barrier

Less common side effects

• Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation
